A quick keyword research workflow—not a five-minute ranking promise

This walkthrough uses Helium 10 to find relevant keywords where a product appears near the top of organic search results, then considers those terms for a controlled PPC test. The research can be quick; advertising does not guarantee an organic ranking improvement or a specific timetable.

We are going to take a random item as an example here. Let’s take this Closet Divider and I’ll show you a quick tip for some easy wins and additional traffic.

Open Helium 10 and go to Tools>Cerebro.

  1. Enter the ASIN
  2. Select “Get Keywords”

Now let’s filter for the keywords in which your product is ranked between 11 and 20, but also has 250 monthly searches or more (feel free to change this value if you are in a more saturated marketplace).

Now click Apply Filters

Now we have a set of keywords where we are just outside the top ten on.

Compare the Organic Rank and Match Type fields in the report. An empty sponsored indicator means the tool did not detect a sponsored placement in that observation; it does not prove that no ads are running.

Look for relevant terms where you already have some organic visibility. Treat these as candidates for a measured PPC test, checking relevance and margin before committing budget.

Now, click “Export Data” as an XLSX file.

Open this up in Google Docs and click the filter option

Click the lines next to “Sponsored”

Filter the Sponsored column to review terms without detected sponsored placements. Treat the tool’s data as an observation, not a complete record of every campaign or auction.

Review the keywords for relevance, then test selected terms in an exact-match campaign with a budget and bids you can monitor.

How to evaluate the keyword test

Track clicks, attributed sales, conversion rate and ACoS separately from organic rank. Paid visibility can help you test shopper demand, but a sale does not guarantee a fixed ranking boost.

Compare the test with your starting data and product margin. Continue, adjust or stop based on the quality and cost of the traffic, not on an assumption that keywords in positions 11–20 must reach the top ten.

Check keyword coverage with the Amazon listing keyword checker; it checks your text, not Amazon indexing. For discovery beyond this shortlist, compare automatic and manual PPC campaigns.
